On a quiet morning in mid-February, as the sun began to cast its golden rays over the bustling streets of Porto Velho, two tire repair workers, Ozimar Queiroz and Lindomar Queiroz, arrived early at their shop on Estrada do Belmont.
Their routine was simple—check the inventory, organize tools, and prepare for the day’s customers. But that morning, something unexpected disrupted their usual schedule.
A heartbreaking sight awaited them just outside their workplace—an abandoned dog lying helplessly on the roadside.
The dog, a pit bull with a gentle demeanor, was in a pitiful state. His body was thin from starvation, his paws were painfully splayed open, and worst of all, he was unable to walk.
It was evident that he had been discarded like an unwanted possession, left to fend for himself in a world that had turned its back on him.
Ozimar, known fondly as Galego among his friends, felt an immediate pang of sorrow. Without a second thought, he made a conscious decision—to care for the dog until he could find a family willing to give him a permanent home.

A Temporary Refuge in a Tire Shop
The workers brought the dog inside, offering him food and water. Though visibly weak, the dog responded with an affectionate gaze, his eyes reflecting a deep gratitude for the kindness he had just received.
His condition, however, was severe. His front legs were deformed, turned backward in a manner that made standing or walking impossible.
As the days passed, the workers noticed the dog’s spirit remained unbroken. Despite his physical limitations, he would drag himself across the dirt-covered floor of the shop, trying to stay close to the humans who had shown him compassion.

Realizing how he struggled to get around, the workers affectionately nicknamed him “Foca”, meaning “Seal” in Portuguese. The name fit perfectly, as his splayed-out front legs and the way he scooted across the ground resembled the movements of a seal.

Yet, despite their best efforts, twenty days passed, and no one stepped forward to adopt him.

Though he had been known as Foca, Michele decided to give him a new name, one that reflected the beginning of his new journey. While his past had been marked by abandonment and hardship, his future would be filled with love and belonging.
