She walked right up to him đ„č

During a rainstorm in Northern California last week, a man driving through the Sierra Nevada mountains noticed a small animal on the side of the road. Ross, who asked that his last name not be used, parked his truck and got out. There, staring up at him, was a very muddy house cat.

Ross approached slowly, walking about halfway between the cat and his truck to avoid scaring the little animal away. Without hesitating, the cat trotted over to him, as if she had been expecting him.
Rossâ wife, Heather, told The Dodo that her husband loves animals but isnât necessarily a âcat person.â That didnât stop him from wrapping the drenched cat in a shirt and bringing her home.
âI am an animal lover, so he knew that I would be fine with it,â Heather said. âHe’s like, âI couldn’t just leave [her] out there.ââ

Once the cat was safely inside and had warmed up by the fireplace, Heather gave her a bath to get rid of the mud and fleas covering her body.
The cat didnât protest during the bath at all, which told Heather she was probably exhausted from whatever circumstances had put her that far out in the wilderness.

âMy kids wanted to call her Bootsie, but my husband called her Lucky because, you know, she’s lucky,â Heather said. âSo we’ve been calling her Lucky Boots.â
The next morning, a local vetâs office scanned Lucky Boots for a microchip. That led Heather to a Sacramento kitten rescue nearly an hour and a half away. Though they confirmed Lucky Boots received the microchip 15 years earlier, they did not have records for her adopters.

Itâs also unclear how long Lucky Boots, a senior cat, had been living outside. The vet gave her antibiotics, pain meds and eye drops for a minor infection. Since then, sheâs been lounging in luxury and snoozing at Heatherâs home.
âShe seems to be doing great,â Heather said. âShe’s not really interested in any toys. She loves to snuggle. One of my boys is all about it ⊠She can’t get up on the couch, but he picks her up and he puts her in a blankie, and he sits and just pats her.â

Heather and Ross have posted on their social media channels, trying to locate Lucky Bootsâ family. Though several people have reached out, hoping she might be their lost cat, the reunion always hits a dead end.

No matter. Lucky Boots is welcome to stay in her rescuerâs home, warm and cozy, as long as she likes.
