As the tranquilizers took effect, the mother elephant lost consciousness, and as she collapsed, she hit her head on the concrete edges of the drain and fell into the hole.
Now, both the mother and the calf were in critical condition, trapped and unable to escape on their own. The danger of the situation became clear as the mother’s heart was at risk from the impact, and time was running out for both elephants. To make matters worse, the mother’s body was wedged in the hole, and her heart was struggling under the strain. The situation was urgent and delicate, with each passing minute putting both lives in greater peril.
The rescue team, however, was undeterred. A truck-mounted cherry picker crane was brought in to lift the mother elephant out of the deep drain, but the job was not simple.
