Earlier this year, dog rescuer Tia of Tia’s Tail Tales was sent a video depicting a puppy stuck in a dire situation. Someone had spotted a dog in the middle of a treacherous junkyard and sent Tia an urgent message asking for help.
In the video, Tia saw the puppy searching for scraps of food among the garbage and pieces of scrap metal. Tia watched the video in horror, gasping as the hard-to-spot baby almost got run over by an excavator.
“The big machine was rolling down the rubbish and [the puppy] was just right there, in line to be crushed,” Tia said in a video for The Dodo.
Tia and her partner rushed over as quickly as they could to help the puppy. When the rescuers arrived, to their surprise, they found not one dog, but four. While the video had shown one of the puppies in the path of the excavator, when Tia and her partner got there, the dogs were running around the hazardous junkyard, hiding under the heavy-duty machinery.
“It’s a really, really dangerous place for young puppies, or for any animal or person, honestly,” Tia said.

Tia managed to catch three of the puppies and gently placed them in together into a carrier. But she and her partner were having trouble catching the last baby. Tia decided to drop off the three puppies at the vet and come back for the last one as soon as they were done.
When Tia returned to the junkyard, the workers had started burning the garbage and the air was filling with smoke. Thankfully, the second time around, Tia was able to quickly catch the fourth puppy, whom she named Christina.
At the vet, Tia was surprised to learn that Christina and the other puppies hadn’t come from the same litter. Despite not being related to them, the slightly older Christina had been taking care of the other puppies, named Honey, Pumpkin and Fudge.
“She had kind of become part of their little pack, and she was looking out for them, which was really cute,” Tia said.

After living in a junkyard for so long, the puppies all needed medical attention. Christina in particular was suffering from severe dehydration, malnutrition, worms and more. But it didn’t take long for all of them to start feeling much better.
The babies were taken in by foster families, where they continued decompressing. Before long, all four of them were adopted. Tia was overjoyed that the puppies she’d saved from such a dangerous situation were going to spend the rest of their lives with loving families.
“I just could not be happier to know that they’re all just running around and being looked after,” Tia said.
