The new year had barely begun when this sweet senior dog named Saint found himself facing an unexpected obstacle.
But it was nothing that Saint, with the help of his mom, couldn’t overcome.
As a 10-year-old rescue dog, Saint has become a bit less spry in his golden years. So, to help him reach the bed he shares with his mom, Jennifer McGregor, she got him a set of stairs that he’s since grown accustomed to using.
“He’s super spoiled,” McGregor told The Dodo. “But he’s truly the sweetest boy.”
The other evening, however, a wrench was inadvertently thrown into Saint’s bedtime routine.
That night, McGregor decided to put fresh sheets on the bed — and to do so, she needed to move Saint’s stairs momentarily. But the dear old dog apparently hadn’t gotten the message.
“While I was grabbing the next sheet, I heard him walking on his stairs,” McGregor said. “I looked up to see him on a path to nowhere.”
Saint wasn’t expecting that.
“He just stood there looking so confused while I finished making the bed,” McGregor said. “I couldn’t believe he was up there and stuck with nowhere to go.”
McGregor guided Saint back down and quickly finished putting on the sheets. Then, she moved the dog’s stairs back to their correct position by the bed.
“He handled it well,” McGregor said. “He climbed up and made himself comfy.”
The new year may have gotten off to a rough start, but it was smooth sailing after that.
“He was snoring within minutes of getting on the bed,” McGregor said. “He slept like an angel.”
All had been set right — and with Mom by his side, the future’s looking bright.
“He’s a stage-five clinger who follows me everywhere and has me wrapped around his paw,” McGregor said. “We definitely share a special bond. He’s my soul dog.”
