Tragic Loss: Granddaughter of ….. Dies at 35 After Heartbreaking Battle With Leukemia

Posted on January 23, 2026

The Kennedy family is mourning a devastating loss as Tatiana Schlossberg, the 35-year-old granddaughter of former U.S. President John F. Kennedy, passed away on December 30, 2025, after a brave and deeply moving fight against acute myeloid leukemia, a rare and aggressive blood cancer.

Schlossberg was the daughter of Caroline Kennedy and Edwin Schlossberg, and built her own distinguished career as an environmental journalist and author. She reported on climate change and environmental issues for leading media outlets, including The New York Times, and published the acclaimed 2019 book Inconspicuous Consumption: The Environmental Impact You Don’t Know You Have.A Sudden and Devastating Illness

In May 2024, shortly after giving birth to her second child, Schlossberg received the shocking diagnosis of acute myeloid leukemia, marked by a rare mutation that made the disease particularly aggressive. Despite undergoing intensive treatment—including chemotherapy, stem-cell transplants, and experimental therapies—her condition remained critical.

In a deeply personal essay published in The New Yorker in November 2025 titled “A Battle With My Blood,” she candidly detailed her struggle with the disease and its emotional toll, especially as a mother of two young children. In the essay, she shared her profound fears that her children might grow up with few memories of her, reflecting the heartbreaking reality she faced.Remembering Her Legacy

Schlossberg’s death was announced in a heartfelt statement shared by the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, which read, “Our beautiful Tatiana passed away this morning. She will always be in our hearts.”
