Israeli Producer of Apple TV Spy Thriller ‘Tehran’ Dana Eden Found Dead in Athens Hotel: Cops

ATHENS, Greece — Dana Eden, the acclaimed Israeli television producer and co-creator of the Apple TV espionage thriller Tehran, was found dead in her hotel room in Athens, Greek police confirmed. She was 52.

Authorities discovered Eden’s body on Sunday, February 15, after relatives became concerned when she failed to respond to messages. Her brother reportedly located her in the hotel room where she had been staying during filming for the series’ fourth season.

Police investigation underway

Greek police have launched a formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding Eden’s death. Early indications suggested she may have taken her own life, with pills reportedly found at the scene, though officials are continuing forensic examinations and reviewing surveillance footage to determine the exact cause.

Some reports noted bruising on her neck and body, prompting further scrutiny, but authorities and her production company said there was no confirmed evidence of foul play or politically motivated violence.

Her production company, Donna and Shula Productions, urged the public to avoid speculation and stressed that rumors suggesting criminal or nationalist motives were unfounded.

A key figure behind an internationally acclaimed spy series

Eden was in Athens overseeing filming for Season 4 of Tehran, the hit Israeli spy thriller distributed globally on Apple TV. The series follows a Mossad agent operating undercover in Iran and has won international recognition, including an International Emmy Award for Best Drama.

Filming frequently takes place in Athens due to its architectural similarities to Tehran, since Israeli productions cannot shoot in Iran.

Eden was a prominent figure in Israeli television for decades, producing more than 40 television and film projects and helping bring Israeli storytelling to global audiences. She began her career in the 1990s and later became one of the creators and executive producers of Tehran.

Tributes pour in

Following news of her death, colleagues and industry figures paid tribute to Eden’s creative legacy and influence. Israel’s public broadcaster and fellow producers praised her dedication, talent, and role in shaping internationally successful television.

Her sudden death has shocked the global television community, particularly as she was actively working on one of Israel’s most internationally recognized drama series at the time.
