Katherine Short, daughter of Martin Short, dies at 42
Katherine Hartley Short, the daughter of acclaimed actor and comedian Martin Short, has died at the age of 42, her family confirmed in a statement that expressed “profound grief” and asked for privacy during this difficult time.
According to multiple reports, Katherine was found dead at her home in the Hollywood Hills, Los Angeles. Authorities responded to a call regarding a possible suicide, and officials later confirmed that her death was the result of a self-inflicted injury.
Katherine was the eldest child and only daughter of Martin Short and his late wife, actress Nancy Dolman, who died in 2010 after a battle with ovarian cancer. The couple adopted three children together, and Katherine largely stayed out of the public spotlight throughout her life.
Despite her low public profile, Katherine built a meaningful career dedicated to helping others. She earned a bachelor’s degree from New York University and later completed a master’s in social work from the University of Southern California. She worked as a licensed clinical social worker in Los Angeles, specializing in mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, and relationship challenges.
