A late-night crash on October 7 turned tragic when a Jeep struck a horse-drawn Amish buggy on State Road 218 near Berne, scattering debris across the highway. The buggy carried nine people, with seven injured, including six juveniles. Driver Ruben L.M. Schwartz, 32, was airlifted to Lutheran Hospital, while Joseph L.M. Schwartz, 20, and five minors were taken to Parkview Hospital. Two others declined treatment. Authorities said the Jeep, driven by Bradley J. Ocilka, 33, of Kentucky, hit the buggy from behind. No charges have been filed, and the investigation remains ongoing as officials examine the circumstances.
