A powerful magnitude 7.7 earthquake struck off Indonesia’s Flores region early Saturday, killing at least 47 people and injuring dozens. The shallow quake caused buildings to collapse, triggered landslides, and damaged roads, schools, medical centers and churches. Authorities issued a tsunami warning and urged coastal residents to move to higher ground, but later lifted it after monitoring showed no major threat. Small tsunamis, including a 1.61-meter wave, were reported in several coastal areas. More than 200 aftershocks followed, including one measuring 6.2. Rescue efforts were complicated by power outages, blocked roads and damaged infrastructure, while thousands moved to temporary shelters.
