Her Family Moved Away And Left Her With The Trash — Then A Hero Opened The Door

Posted on August 9, 2025

As she trudged through the littered floors of an abandoned house last week, Suzette Hall’s heart sank. The concerned neighbors who’d called her stated that the previous tenants had moved out a week prior, but a strange noise had led them to believe someone was still left behind.

“The neighbors kept hearing something — a cry, a whimper — and finally went to check,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “What they found was heartbreaking.”

When the neighbors entered the vacant house, they found a sea of trash and a lone white dog covered in so many dreadlocks that she could hardly move.

“This poor girl, left behind like garbage, was so matted she couldn’t even walk,” Hall wrote. “She was covered in tight, painful dreadlocks, and the itching was so unbearable …”

The discovery floored the neighbors. They called the previous tenants to ask why they’d left their dog behind, and the response they received was devastating.

“[T]heir response? ‘We had nowhere to take her,’” Hall wrote.

Sadly, the pup’s family abandoned her without any food or water, forcing her to survive on her own for a week. She was nearly out of hope until her concerned neighbors and Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, arrived.

“Oh my gosh, I’ve never seen a dog so thankful when I showed up to save her,” Hall told The Dodo. “She just lit up.”

The pup, later named Eyelit, knew her life was about to change the moment she saw Hall. She had every reason not to trust a stranger, but instead, Eyelit allowed Hall to get close enough to pet and eventually grab her.

“She knows she’s safe now,” Hall wrote.

Hall drove Eyelit straight to the vet, where a thorough examination revealed the extent of her neglect.

“Her matting is so deep, the dreadlocks are pulling at her skin,” Hall wrote. “But through all the pain, she’s already giving kisses.”

Eyelit received a much-needed spa treatment the next day, complete with a soothing bath and revitalizing haircut. Eyelit soon transformed from a matted, downtrodden dog to a youthful, vibrant puppy with her whole life ahead of her.

“For who knows how long, she couldn’t even see the world through the thick, painful mats that covered her tiny face,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “But today, all the neglect, all the filth, all the pain [is] gone. Now, she sees. Now, she feels. And now … she shines.”

Eyelit has been thriving since her makeover and is looking forward to finding a forever home soon. For now, she’s just enjoying life as a spoiled foster dog, but Hall knows the best is yet to come for the sweet girl.

“Eyelit has no idea just how beautiful her life is about to become,” Hall wrote. “But I do.”
